While casually surfing the web i found this interesting tool that has been developed as a summer project by students at University of Illinois with support from Deere & Company.
The Tool works in coordination with USPTO bulk download facility and claims to contain patent data from 1976 onwards. Read more here.
I tried my hand at it and it really is interesting. The data is clean and the interface is simple.
